A video of Aldon Smith opening up on his struggles while getting a haircut has surfaced online following his unexpected passing

News of Smith’s death rocked the football community this weekend. The former San Francisco 49ers defensive end reportedly reached a hospital as a DOA on Saturday.

His cause of death is still unknown.

Smith was named an All-Pro and Pro Bowler at the end of his second season in the NFL. A first-round pick by the Niners in 2011, he registered 33.5 sacks in his first 32 games.

Unfortunately, substance abuse and other issues would impact his career. He hadn’t played in the NFL since 2020.

It appears he was turning a corner, having returned to the Bay Area recently, according to the San Francisco Chronicle

The former DE was delivering pizzas to a charity for homeless people just hours before his death.

A clip showing him having a conversation with a barber a few days prior has also surfaced online.

“I’ve definitely had better days,” he said at the beginning.

Invited to elaborate, Smith said the following:

“It’s along the lines of something I think I’ve been dealing with my whole life, and I’m just struggling with accepting how it’s playing out right now.”

Santa Clara County’s chief medical examiner, Michelle Jorden, told the San Francisco Chronicle they were investigating Smith’s death.

“The Office of the Medical Examiner is confirming the death of 36-year-old Aldon Jacarus Ramon Smith, who died today June 13, 2026,” Jorden wrote. “The Medical Examiner is investigating his death, and no further information is available at this time. The cause and manner of death are pending.”

Smith was a standout at Missouri and was a Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year winner before the 49ers took him 7th overall.

He was on a Hall of Fame trajectory before his career took a dip he never truly recovered from.
