The Jacksonville Jaguars will thrust Travis Hunter into a slightly different role next season following a hybrid rookie campaign.

Hunter, the second overall pick of the 2025 NFL Draft, played twice as many snaps on offense as he did on defense in his first professional term.

A two-way star in college, the former Heisman entered the league with a burgeoning reputation. However, questions hung over him as everyone wanted to know how he would be used.

The Jags let him play 324 snaps on offense as a rookie. He played 162 snaps on the other side of the ball.

Hunter was unfortunate in that his first season ended prematurely, with a knee injury sidelining him after seven games.

According to NFL Network’s Cameron Wolfe, the Jaguars are now planning to make him a starting cornerback in 2026, while he will play part-time as a wide receiver.

Jaguars GM James Gladstone previously pointed out that there was a greater need at cornerback, but Hunter would continue playing on both sides of the ball. Head coach Liam Coen said something similar at the beginning of the year.

The former Colorado standout didn’t have a significant impact on either side last season, making 28 catches for 298 yards and a touchdown on offense.

He registered 11 solo tackles, three passes defensed and zero interceptions as a defensive back.
