Justin Herbert’s 2025 NFL season ended on a low note. The Los Angeles Chargers couldn’t keep up with the No. 2 New England Patriots in the wild-card round, going home with empty hands and plenty of questions to answer.
Herbert was trolled by fans after being sacked six times. Others were concerned about his well-being, noting that it would be hard for him to succeed behind such a terrible offensive line. Head coach Jim Harbaugh fired two coaches after the wild-card round, hoping to find the right candidates to help Herbert in 2026.
Meanwhile, rumors and speculation about Herbert’s future started circulating online. The Chargers haven’t shown any intention of moving on from Herbert, but some started wondering how the quarterback’s career could change if they thought differently.
Justin Herbert Joins New York Jets In Wild Mock Trade

On Monday, Polymarket Football suggested a blockbuster trade around Justin Herbert. The former No. 6 pick would go to the New York Jets in exchange for three first-round picks, including this year’s No. 2 selection.

Herbert completed 66.4% of his passes, tallying 3,727 yards and 26 touchdowns with 13 interceptions. The Chargers advanced to the playoffs for the second consecutive season, but they came up short again. The Patriots beat them 16-3 on Sunday. Herbert went 19 of 31 for 159 yards.
He admitted he didn’t play up to his standards, while noting that the team also failed to find the end zone.
“Quarterback play wasn’t good enough,” Herbert told reporters. “I didn’t play well enough and didn’t make any plays. And when it mattered most, we didn’t score any points.”
The Chargers suffered several injuries this season. We will never know how good they would have been if everybody were fully healthy.
