Justin Tucker’s NFL comeback just took another unexpected turn.
The veteran kicker worked out for the New York Jets on Wednesday as the team continues evaluating its options before the 2026 season begins.
At 36, Tucker remains one of the most decorated kickers in NFL history. He spent all 13 of his NFL seasons with the Baltimore Ravens, earning seven Pro Bowl selections, five first-team All-Pro honors and a Super Bowl title.
He also owns a career field-goal percentage of 89.1%, which ranks third all-time. His 417 career field goals rank 14th in NFL history.
According to Reuters, Tucker was one of three kickers brought in by New York. Michael Badgley and Joshua Karty also participated in the workout.
Justin Tucker Gets Another NFL Opportunity
The Jets have plenty of uncertainty at kicker heading into Week 1. Jason Sanders was released before being re-signed to the practice squad, while Blake Grupe was claimed off waivers.
That situation could give Justin Tucker an opening. The former Ravens star has continued pursuing an NFL return despite not playing since the 2024 season. His final year in Baltimore was difficult, as he converted only 22 of 30 field-goal attempts.
That 73.3% success rate represented the worst season of his career.
Still, Tucker’s overall résumé remains difficult for teams to overlook. His powerful leg and extensive experience could make him an intriguing option if the Jets want a veteran presence.
Justin Tucker Still Has Plenty to Prove
Tucker was released by Baltimore in May 2025 while the NFL investigated allegations of inappropriate behavior involving massage therapists. Tucker denied the allegations.
The league subsequently suspended him for the first 10 games of the 2025 season under its Personal Conduct Policy. He remains eligible to sign with an NFL team.
The controversy has made his comeback considerably more complicated, but football remains part of the equation. The Jets have not committed to Tucker following Wednesday’s workout. Instead, the session gives the team an opportunity to evaluate whether the veteran can still perform at an NFL level.
For Tucker, the workout represents another chance to prove that his career is not finished.
The Jets open their season September 13 against the Tennessee Titans, meaning a decision at kicker could come quickly. Whether Tucker turns this opportunity into an NFL contract remains unclear.
But after months away from the league, he has another door open.
