The Kansas City Chiefs could end their partnership with Josh Simmons amid a series of issues that put the young tackle in a complex position. Simmons reportedly clashed with head coach Andy Reid and quarterback Patrick Mahomes last week.

After Reid instructed to get treatment from athletic trainers during an offense meeting, Simmons refused to do so. Mahomes had to intervene and echoed Reid’s words. Simmons, the No. 32 pick in the 2025 NFL draft, left the room but stayed inside the building one day before the team placed him on injured reserve.

His future is unclear at the time of writing. The Chiefs have been without him since he suffered a back injury a couple of months ago, and his health could play a key role in a potential release.

On Tuesday, NFL insider Ian Rapoport appeared on Peter Schrager’s “Big Day” to share the latest about Simmons. He floated the idea that Simmons’ days in Kansas City might be numbered.

“I don’t know if he plays for the Chiefs again,” Rapoport said. “I don’t know when he plays for the Chiefs again. There’s nothing more important than protecting Patrick Mahomes. You have to believe in the person doing it, and until that happens, I don’t know that he’s out there.”

Without Simmons, Kahlil Benson will have to protect Mahomes’ blindside. Simmons arrived in Kansas City with high expectations, but the start of the season could ruin his plans.
