Arizona Cardinals star Kyler Murray’s future appears to be away from the Valley. After seven years with the Cards, the former No. 1 overall pick could start the 2026 NFL season on a different team.

Murray has been linked with several teams in recent times. The Pittsburgh Steelers were mentioned among four franchises interested in acquiring his services amid Aaron Rodgers’ uncertain future. On February 14, the Minnesota Vikings also emerged as a potential landing spot for the veteran.

Injuries and the resurgence of Jacoby Brissett limited Murray to only five games. He went 110 of 161 for 962 yards, six touchdowns and three interceptions. The relationship between the team and the player appears to have an inevitable ending.

ESPN’s Josh Weinfuss reported on Tuesday that Murray and Cardinals general manager Monti Ossenfort hadn’t talked since the end of the 2025 season. However, Ossenfort told the opposite at the NFL Combine.

“Yeah, I’ve always had a good dialogue with Kyler,” Ossenfort said. “And I’d say [last season] wasn’t up to what Kyler wanted. It wasn’t up to what any of us wanted as a season as a whole.

“And, so, when you have the kind of year that we had, there’s a lot of room for improvement, and so we got to find a way to do that, not only at that position, in all positions, but that’s what we’re all focused on, is getting better and moving forward.”

Mike LaFleur replaced Jonathan Gannon as head coach, and that doesn’t seem like the only change the Cardinals will make this offseason. They can part ways with Murray, who will likely have a strong market.
