The Los Angeles Rams limped their way through the finish line. They closed out the season with a much-needed win over the Arizona Cardinals after dropping their previous two games.

Notably, the fact that Davante Adams wasn’t out there in the regular-season finale raised major questions about his availability for the playoffs.

However, according to head coach Sean McVay, it was just a matter of erring on the side of caution. When asked about Adams, McVay admitted that the former Green Bay Packers star was pretty upset about not playing. Even so, he’s expected to be a full-go for their Wild Card matchup with the Carolina Panthers:

“But he’s got that look in his eye that I know he’s ready to go,” McVay said, per ESPN. “And man, you just feel better when you see No. 17 out there on our offense and it poses a lot of different challenges for people to have to defend when you put that freaking stud back out on the grass for us.”

Adams was down in severe pain after aggravating his hamstring injury in the win over the Detroit Lions in Week 15. As a result, the Rams chose not to push him for the final stretch of the season.

That was the right decision. The division was already out of reach, and soft-tissue injuries tend to linger.

The Rams have missed Adams in the red zone, and the team will always benefit from having one of the most reliable pass catchers of his generation on the field. That’s why they had to think about the big picture.

Matthew Stafford and the Rams will face the Panthers in Carolina for the second time this season. They will certainly hope for a better outcome this time around.

Dave Canales’ team got the best of the Rams with a shocking 31-28 upset in Week 13. They held Stafford to 18 completions on 28 passes for 247 yards, two touchdowns, and two interceptions.

Adams, however, was a crucial factor in the endzone. He finished the game with four catches for 58 yards and both of Stafford’s touchdown passes.

Things might certainly be different in the playoffs, and even with the Panthers getting Round 1, the Rams are a veteran team with a Super Bowl pedigree.
