Marcus Mariota Sets The Record Straight After Cris Collinsworth Was Accused Of Butchering His Name On ‘SNF’ [VIDEO]

Washington Commanders quarterback Marcus Mariota has sounded off on the pronunciation of his name following Cris Collinsworth trending over it. 

The Commanders played the Denver Broncos on ‘Sunday Night Football’ this week, with Mariota under center in place of the injured Jayden Daniels. He had a pretty decent outing against one of the NFL’s best teams in 2025, completing 28 of 50 pass attempts for 249 yards, two touchdowns, and one interception.

Washington also came close to winning the game but ultimately fell 27-26 after missing on a two-point conversion in overtime. 

Collinsworth, meanwhile, received plenty of attention for the way he pronounced Mariota’s name. Everyone thought he got it wrong. 

The veteran commentator has had his integrity questioned in recent weeks, also going viral over an incredibly raunchy remark he made on air. So he’s constantly under scrutiny.

“Why is Cris Collinsworth pronouncing Mariota that way?” one fan asked.

Marcus Mariota Confirms Cris Collinsworth Was Right

It appears that the NBC announcer will have the last laugh, however. 

Mariota has since confirmed to reporters that the way Collinsworth pronounced his name is how it’s actually supposed to be pronounced, adding that most people have been getting it wrong for years. 

So there you have it; you were wrong, Cris Collinsworth was right. 

As for Marcus Mariota, the quarterback is likely set for another start. The Commanders are playing the Minnesota Vikings this coming Sunday, and Jayden Daniels’ status is still up in the air.

Folks will probably be keeping track of that pronunciation.
