Over a year since he was stabbed in Indianapolis, Mark Sanchez’s civil lawsuit is close to coming to an end. The former NFL quarterback faced serious prison time last year on a felony charge. He was also charged with several misdemeanors in the case.

The charges included battery causing serious injury, unauthorized entry of a motor vehicle, and public intoxication. He fought 69-year-old truck driver Perry Tole in a sequence that sent shockwaves across the NFL world in October 2025.

He lost his job at FOX, with Drew Brees replacing him in the booth. A week before the start of the 2026 season, Sanchez’s legal team and the state filed a joint motion.

The Indiana Lawyer reported on Thursday that Sanchez and Tole reached an agreement in principle, and future dates have been vacated. Discovery, conferences and a trial are no longer scheduled.

“Additional time to complete the execution of the settlement documents may be granted if requested in writing before expiration of this period,” the court order read.

The jury trial was initially scheduled for March 12. The date moved five times before Sanchez’s attorneys requested his plea deal to be accepted.

“We are finalizing an agreement with the prosecutor’s office that provides a path toward resolving the state’s case,” Nick Sanchez Jr., Mark’s brother and legal adviser, said. “We’re also encouraged by the constructive conversations taking place regarding the related civil matter. There is real momentum toward bringing this entire chapter to a close.”

Matt Golitko, Tole’s attorney, shared positive words about the collaboration between the parties.

“We are pleased with the constructive and professional conversations we’ve had with Mr. Sanchez’s team. Our discussions have been productive and we’re on a positive path toward an agreement that will allow the parties to move forward. Mr. Tole appreciates the progress we have achieved and looks forward to an amicable resolution.”

After over a year since the awful incident, Sanchez and Tole can find peace. The next move for the former New York Jets star remains unclear at the time.
