Matthew Stafford’s Wife Kelly Takes Aim At The NFL As She Fears For Her Husband’s Health

Kelly Stafford, wife of Los Angeles Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford, has lashed out at the NFL with regard to head injuries.
It’s not the first time either.
Back in 2022, she told followers she was not okay after her husband entered the concussion protocol.
And, with a new study on CTE having been published recently, she’s sounded off again.
CBS News reports that researchers estimate 74.5% of former NFL players who died from 2008 to 2023 had chronic traumatic encephalopathy, or CTE. It’s only possible to diagnose the disease after death. JAMA Network Open published the findings Wednesday.
CBS says the research builds on a study from August that estimated 25% to 98% of players who died from 2016 to 2021 had CTE.
Kelly Stafford took to Instagram Stories this week, where she took aim at the league, urging it to “GET RID OF TURF. PLEASE.”
“Will it fix everything? No. Will it eliminate injuries? Absolutely not. But my goodness, wouldn’t it be a step in the right direction?” she asked.
“Football is physical. It’s violent. Heads are going to collide,” Kelly continued.
The outspoken WAG told the NFL, “You have the money. You have the resources. You have the ability to lead the way.”
Matthew Stafford Called Grass A Must After Malik Nabers’ ACL Injury

Pro Football Talk reported that Matthew Stafford made a similar case in September 2025. He spoke shortly after Giants receiver Malik Nabers tore his ACL at MetLife Stadium. “Grass to me is a must. I wish we would get it done,” the quarterback said then.
The NFL’s own medical chief has taken a different view.
The New York Daily News reported that Dr. Allen Sills, the league’s chief medical officer, previously cited no statistically significant differences between surfaces for lower-body injuries or concussions.
CBS adds that the league points to Guardian Caps, rule changes and resources for former players.
