Mike McCarthy last coached the Dallas Cowboys in the NFL. The NFC East team fired him after a 7-10 record in a tumultuous 2024 season that included a season-ending hamstring injury for Dak Prescott.

McCarthy started appearing more in the media, especially on ESPN’s “The Pat McAfee Show,” while he awaited new opportunities in the league. It seems as though that opportunity might be closer than we thought.

The Pittsburgh Steelers were reportedly interested in speaking with the former Green Bay Packers and Dallas Cowboys head coach. McCarthy had a previous relationship with Steelers general manager Omar Khan after they worked together in New Orleans. The prospect of coaching another iconic NFL franchise has enticed McCarthy, who is all-in on Pittsburgh.

NFL insider Tom Pelissero reported on Tuesday that Mike McCarthy will interview with the Steelers on Wednesday. The 62-year-old is all-in on Pittsburgh, as he turned down inquiries from other teams and also withdrew himself from consideration for the Titans head-coaching job on Monday.

McCarthy is a Pittsburgh native, and the possibility of returning home has seemingly made up his mind. He previously praised New York Giants rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart, which many took as a wink for the Big Blue, who recently hired John Harbaugh as their new head coach.

McCarthy has a proven record in the league, and he can be what the Steelers need to elevate their level after 19 years with Mike Tomlin. It seems that both parties are interested in working together, and that is always positive.
