Mike Tirico was credited with delivering one of the greatest calls in NFL history just last month. But the NBC announcer made a massive blunder to start the Super Bowl on Sunday.

Tirico suggested actor Adam Sandler was a lifelong Patriots fan when the ‘Happy Gilmore’ star popped up on screen during the broadcast.

Sandler was shown wearing a Pats cap – or so it appeared – while sitting in a suite.

Tirico claimed the actor was there to support the Patriots as usual. Of course, Sandler is known to be a Jets fan, so there was no chance he showed up to root for the Pats.

Social media quickly shut down the suggestion.

“Adam Sandler, supporting the Patriots, as per usual,” someone shared. “Believe this is literally the first time in my life I’ve seen the Sand Man supporting the Patriots. Isn’t he a Jets fan?

“What the F**K did Tirico just say about lifelong @nyjets SUPER FAN @AdamSandler???” someone else asked.

“adam sandler was wearing a super bowl hat, not rocking with the patriots “per usual”,” another fan pointed out.

You can see the other side of Sandler’s hat in the photos below:

Sandler is probably not going to be happy about the claim.
