Mike Tomlin has reportedly decided on his next gig after resigning as head coach of the Pittsburgh Steelers.

After Pittsburgh’s embarrassing playoff loss to the Houston Texans, Mike Tomlin stepped down as the Steelers’ head coach. That ended his illustrious 19-year tenure with the organization, one that produced 193 wins, two AFC championships and a Super Bowl 43 triumph.

Tomlin would have been highly sought after by other NFL teams, but he opted to take a hiatus from coaching. The Steelers hired former Dallas Cowboys and Green Bay Packers head coach Mike McCarthy to succeed Tomlin.

With his coaching career on sabbatical, Mike Tomlin is reportedly getting ready to begin a career in broadcasting.

According to Ryan Glasspiegel and Michael McCarthy of Front Office Sports, Tomlin has signed with top sports media agent Sandy Montag. The Super Bowl-winning coach will now begin negotiations with networks to begin a broadcasting career:

“Mike Tomlin is testing the TV market waters.

The former Steelers head coach has signed with longtime sports media agent Sandy Montag’s agency, sources told Front Office Sports.

Montag and former sportscaster-turned-agent Alex Flanagan will represent Tomlin in potential contract talks with networks and streamers, sources said. The Montag Group could not be reached for comment.

When Tomlin stepped away from the Pittsburgh job after 19 years and one Super Bowl championship earlier this year, the expectation was that he would ignite a bidding war amongst the NFL’s rights partners. While there are fewer former head coaches in broadcasting roles than there used to be, the 54-year-old is expected to have multiple suitors.

Montag, the founder of The Montag Group, now a division of The Team (formerly Wasserman), also represents Mike Tirico, Jim Nantz, Scott Van Pelt, James Brown, and Dick Vitale. He was famously the agent for the late John Madden.”

Now, we wait and see which network will emerge as the lucky winners of the Tomlin free agency sweepstakes.

Mike Tomlin Should Flourish In His New Role

Not all NFL coaches are friendly with the media. But even Bill Belichick had a successful short-lived media career before taking over as the North Carolina Tar Heels’ new football head coach.

Nobody knows football better than a long-tenured NFL coach. Tomlin also has a fun personality and was always respectful of the media. So, he should have no problem transitioning to a new role in front of the cameras.

The future Hall of Famer should be pursued by every NFL broadcast partner. CBS has had great success with Bill Cowher, and Fox enjoyed an excellent partnership with Jimmy Johnson before his retirement. Tomlin promises to be a special addition to whichever network lands him.
