New Report Reveals How CBS Allegedly Reacted To Tony Romo Immediately After His Arrest

A new report has thrown Tony Romo’s future at CBS into more uncertainty following his recent arrest on suspicion of operating while intoxicated in Wisconsin.
According to Fox Sports host Colin Cowherd, CBS executives quietly distanced themselves from Romo almost immediately after the incident, reflecting what he described as long-standing tension behind the scenes.
Cowherd shared the claim during an appearance on the ‘House of Strauss’ podcast.
He said a source familiar with the situation told him CBS executives did not contact Romo during the first two days after his arrest.
Cowherd stressed that the information came from someone he believes would know what happened.
Tony Romo’s Contract Negotiations May Have Left Lingering Resentment
Cowherd suggested the relationship between Romo and CBS had been strained since the former Cowboys quarterback negotiated his record-setting broadcasting contract.
“When you go into contract negotiations, there was a moment in time that Tony Romo had tremendous leverage over CBS,” he explained. “And he squeezed them for every nickel.”
Cowherd then questioned whether that negotiation left lasting resentment within the company.
“Even if you have leverage, it will create resentment somewhere upstairs,” Cowherd said. “And I’ve always thought with the CBS execs, they don’t defend him quite as quickly. Or, when this recent story came out, reportedly, for the first two days nobody from CBS contacted him.
“That’s what I heard from somebody who would know. And I thought, is there resentment upstairs? Because he had them. He had them dead to rights, and he got every penny he wanted.”
This surfaced days after CBS announced Romo would take an indefinite leave of absence following his arrest. The network also confirmed that J.J. Watt will move into the lead NFL analyst role alongside Jim Nantz and Tracy Wolfson while Romo is away.
Despite the uncertainty surrounding Romo’s future, former Cowboys owner Jerry Jones recently voiced strong support for his longtime quarterback.
Jones praised Romo’s resilience and football intelligence, saying he has always responded well to adversity.
For now, Romo’s future with CBS remains unclear. The latest claims about his relationship with network executives add another unanswered question to a story that continues to develop.
