New York Giants’ Latest Signing Sparks Concerns About Malik Nabers’ Week 1 Status

The New York Giants made a last-minute roster move on Saturday, and it has fans wondering what it means for Malik Nabers ahead of their Week 1 clash with the Dallas Cowboys.
According to Art Stapleton of NorthJersey.com, the Giants signed wide receiver and special teams player Dalen Cambre from the practice squad to the 53-man roster. “Giants are signing WR/ST Dalen Cambre to the 53-man roster, per sources. Sense I get is that they’re still going through combos of what game day roster will look like with actives/inactives and Malik Nabers’ status,” Stapleton wrote.
The move gives Cambre a nice pay raise and lets the team decide whether to make him ready for Sunday night’s game.
Cambre looked sharp all summer. He caught seven passes for 79 yards across three preseason games. The Giants let him go during final cuts before bringing him back to the practice squad, and now he has another real shot to make his mark.
Dalen Cambre Move Raises Questions About Malik Nabers
The timing of the move has drawn attention because Nabers remains a question mark for Sunday night.
SNY’s Connor Hughes suggested the signing could signal trouble for the star receiver.
“Activating another WR I don’t think bodes well for Malik Nabers. But we’ll see,” Hughes wrote on X.
Nabers does not carry a designation on the Giants’ official injury report. He also practiced fully for two straight days, which gives him reason for optimism.

Still, Nabers has made it clear that he will not risk his long-term health for one game. When reporters asked about his status Thursday, he pointed to comments from head coach John Harbaugh and said, “What Harbs said.”
Nabers then explained his thinking.
“I’ve been wanting to play for so long now. At the end of the day, I can’t put my career at risk. I got to take that into account. There’s a lot of football that I still have left to play,” Nabers said.
The Giants might just want an extra receiver ready to go while they figure out who actually dresses for the game. Or, they could just be trying to keep Dallas guessing.
Either way, calling up Cambre definitely adds to the mystery around Nabers. Fans won’t know for sure until the Giants announce their final lineup Sunday night.
