Plaxico Burress, one of the biggest “what-ifs” in NFL history, decided to sell his Super Bowl XLII ring. The former wide receiver played a key role in the Giants’ win against the undefeated New England Patriots nearly two decades ago.

Burress caught the game-winning touchdowns during that memorable Super Bowl. It ended the Patriots’ attempt at an undefeated season and the first 19-0 record in league history.

He sold it for a whopping $280,600 price for Heritage Auctions. The price nearly broke a record, as former Baltimore Colts coach Don McCafferty’s ring from Super Bowl V was auctioned off in 2022 for a $300,000 price tag.

While the news emerged again on Saturday thanks to Dov Kleiman, the announcement of Burress selling his ring took place in February, 2025.

The retired wide receiver has dealt with multiple financial and legal hardships despite making $29 million during his playing career. He served 20 months in prison after pleading guilty to attempted weapon possession.

He earned opportunities in the NFL media, which hopefully helped him put an end to his financial issues.
