Zack Rosenblatt of The Athletic reported the team worked out two QBs. Jack Plummer and Will Levis both threw. Rosenblatt said the target was a practice squad spot.
That timing matters. New York opens September 13 against Tennessee. Geno Smith sits as the starter. Rookie Cade Klubnik is the listed backup on the 53. The room still looks thin behind them.
New York Jets Look At UFL MVP After Another Cut
Plummer is the more interesting name on that list. He is 26 and will turn 27 this season after winning UFL MVP with the Orlando Storm.
The league said he led the UFL with 2,188 passing yards. He completed 65 percent of his throws. He posted 17 touchdowns and one interception in 10 games. Orlando finished 8-2 and earned the No. 1 seed.
“My goal was to come here and play well and go back to the NFL,” Plummer said during the UFL season.
He is 6-foot-5 and 215 pounds, played at Purdue, California, and Louisville. He went undrafted in 2024. Carolina kept him on the practice squad and later waived him in August 2025.
The 49ers workout already showed NFL teams still have interest. Miami also looked at him this summer. Now the New York Jets are in that mix.
He is not related to Jake Plummer. The names trip people up. The tape is the only connection that matters here.

Levis is the bigger NFL name. Tennessee drafted him in the second round in 2023. He started 21 games across two seasons. He finished 5-16 as a starter and was cut after this preseason.
New York faces his old team in Week 1. That familiarity is the pitch. The Jets still need someone who can run the offense if Smith or Klubnik goes down.
They already cut Bailey Zappe during roster cuts. Aaron Glenn has said Klubnik is the backup on the 53. That stance leaves the practice squad as the next landing spot.
