The NFL has set its future Super Bowl locations well in advance. It already locked in SoFi Stadium for next year and Mercedes-Benz Stadium for 2028. But one key detail stands out this time.

The league has not set a date for Super Bowl LXII in Atlanta. That absence has raised eyebrows across the football world. Analysts and fans both see it as unusual, especially with the event less than two years away.

Mike Florio of ProFootballTalk brought attention to it during an appearance on Pablo Torre Finds Out. “The Super Bowl to be played in Atlanta, in February of 2028, does not have a date yet, which, less than two years from the game, is unheard of,” Florio said. He linked that gap to a bigger plan.

Florio believes the league wants an 18-game regular season. He suggested the missing date gives the NFL room to adjust the calendar if it expands the schedule. The league already moved from 16 to 17 games not long ago. Another jump would reshape the season again.

NFL Fans React To 18-Game Talk

Fans jumped into the debate online. Some accepted the idea and focused on the business side.

One fan wrote, “As long as they have 2 byes it’s ok. Why not. More weeks of revenue. And then you could have a bye before the Thursday games.”

Others pushed back hard. One fan said, “If they agree to 18 games and don’t mandate lifetime medical, and roster expansion, then lockout the entire season if not multiple. It can’t be about player safety while adding games.”

Another fan said, “Yeah, 18 is imminent and the Players won’t stop it any more than they did with 17. The NFL had it right with 16. 16 games, 2 byes per conference. Now, it’s an overstuffed mess and their greed is glaring. TNF is massive overkill, playing on Turkey Day is now whatever.”

The discussion shows that fans are divided. Some see it as a chance for growth and more money. Others worry about the risks and the impact on players.

The NFL has clearly shown interest in moving to an 18-game season. Team owners want more games because it means more revenue and bigger TV deals. At the same time, the league is trying to grow worldwide, which brings more opportunities.

Right now, the Super Bowl date has not been announced, and that keeps the conversation alive. The league has not confirmed any changes yet. Still, the lack of a set date is making many believe something big could be coming.
