NFL Is Getting Blasted For “Mocking The Pope” During Cringe Skit At Awards Ceremony [VIDEO]

The NFL held its NFL Honors ceremony on Thursday night, bringing out actor Ben Odenkirk as ‘Da Pope.”
Odenkirk, popular for his roles in hit series ‘Breaking Bad” and ‘Better Call Saul,” interrupted proceedings as he went on a rant about the Chicago Bears.
The Berwyn, Illinois, native was dressed in papal gear featuring Bears signage, eliciting a few laughs from the crowd with his quips.
He was later joined by Bears legend Charles Tillman, who reminded him that, despite the playoff disappointment, they beat the Green Bay Packers twice.
They ended the bit by chanting “Packers Suck.”

Did The NFL & Bob Odenkirk Really Trigger Fans?

MLFootball reported that fans were upset by what they saw as a mockery of the Pope.
“Christian #NFL fans are extremely angry that at #NFLHonors the league had a bit “MOCKING THE POPE” by Bob Odenkirk in front of the entire league,” the account noted.
“Christianity/Catholicism is the most mocked religion. It’s never Islam or Judaism. Think about that,” someone wrote in the comments.

“I’m a practicing Catholic and to be honest I didn’t find it offensive. It wasn’t that funny but it wasn’t horrible in my opinion,” said a third.

“Devout Catholic echoing other Catholic comments here. Wasn’t really offended, didn’t think it that funny either (though I did chuckle at a few parts). This doesn’t feel like mean-spirited mockery as much as mediocre parody. Not losing sleep over this. Catholics can take a joke,” a user wrote.

Of course, MLFootball typically tries to create the outrage it claims already exists, which is hardly ever the case.
As for Odenkirk, both he and the Pope would have been pleased with Chicago’s resurgence and all the excitement Caleb Williams brought to the league in 2025.
Meanwhile, the voters named Matthew Stafford MVP on the night, which saw him edge Drake Maye out in what was a close race.
