Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts has been ruled out for the rest of the 2026 NFL season. The news came on the heels of the Eagles finding a superficial blood clot in his left calf that worsened into deep vein thrombosis and bilateral pulmonary emboli.

How we got to the point appears to be a major problem.

Hurts reported left calf pain before the Eagles’ October 11 game against the Jacksonville Jaguars. Furthermore, an ultrasound revealed a superficial blood clot. Consequently, the team’s medical staff cleared him to play.

He started the game in London before flying back to the United States, all of which could’ve killed him. Consequently, follow-up tests and monitoring revealed the clot had moved deeper into his leg and traveled to his lungs. His season was finished, and now his career could be in jeopardy.

Many accused the Eagles’ medical team of failing him and putting his life at risk. However, the NFL did not agree.

The NFL will not punish the Philadelphia Eagles or their medical staff after reviewing the handling of quarterback Jalen Hurts.

A day after reporters grilled Nick Sirianni, the NFL concluded that Hurts being cleared to play against the Jaguars in Week 5 with a blood clot “was handled appropriately,” The Athletic learned.

That same source told The Athletic that the NFL will “not issue any punishment to the Eagles for its handling of the medical process, or for Hurts not being given an injury designation ahead of the game.”

Their decision to play Hurts with a superficial blood clot and fly home from London will face more scrutiny. However, it appears that the NFL has found no wrongdoing.
