Troy Aikman and Joe Buck made the rounds on social media after a shocking report said they had a fight before the Monday Night Football broadcast in Week 5 of the 2026 NFL season.
The duo joined ESPN in 2022 after spending several years with FOX. Aikman joined the network before Buck struck a deal. Four years later, Buck got a new deal, while Aikman announced he would be a free agent after this season.
A week after the reported fight, they worked together again, but Aikman didn’t look so happy in his first post-fight broadcast. The situation reached a point where the NFL got involved. The league had to share its stance on the ongoing situation.
League Executive Praises Buck and Aikman Coverage Quality

On Wednesday, NFL executive vice president and chief media officer Hans Schroeder detailed the league’s stance on the Buck-Aikman controversy.
“No concern,” Schroeder said, via Mark Maske of Front Office Sports. “I don’t know if you watched the game on Monday night. It was an incredible game, right? It was an incredible game and incredible coverage by Joe and Troy, just like they always do. . . . So, look, that’s something . . . that we’re really not involved with. I think the fans are deserving of first-class game production, which Joe and Troy have, I think, going back to ’02 or something was their first year, a history of doing that as well as anyone. And I think you’ll continue to see them do that as well as anyone. I thought it was awesome Monday night. And so we’re incredibly excited about the year . . . and the Super Bowl and their coverage and getting them back as far as ESPN’s first ever and ABC’s in a long time. They’re going to do an unbelievable job.”

Aikman has been linked with different jobs in recent days, including a partnership with Jim Nantz at CBS. Time will tell where the Hall of Fame quarterback ends up after ESPN’s first-ever Super Bowl on Feb. 14, 2027.
