NFL safety Jaylen Reed had no idea that being the victim of a crime would cause so many arrests.

Reed was the victim of a terrifying, armed carjacking outside his home earlier this year. At the time, he was still a member of the Houston Texans. The dynamic defensive back was targeted by criminals because of his high-profile status as a public figure.

He was lucky to keep his life, based on what the FBI has learned about the group that robbed him.

Three masked men dressed entirely in black ambushed him directly inside his garage on January 4. The aggressive suspects pointed long rifles at him and demanded everything he had inside his house. They ultimately stole his expensive Jeep Cherokee Trackhawk SUV and quickly fled from the residential property.

Furthermore, Houston police officers successfully tracked down the stolen vehicle and initiated a high-speed pursuit. The dangerous police chase through the Greenspoint area resulted in two heavily damaged patrol cruisers. The stolen SUV eventually crashed, allowing law enforcement officers to quickly arrest 20-year-old suspect Montreal Frye. Interestingly, the subsequent investigation into this specific carjacking eventually led the FBI to a massive regional gang bust.

More Than 15 Arrests Followed the Carjacking of Reed

The armed carjacking of Patriots player Jaylen Reed accidentally triggered a massive FBI sting operation in Houston. Following the robbery, federal investigators performed a deep digital dump of cell phone location data.

Consequently, this detailed technology check revealed that suspect Montreal Frye’s brother was also in the active area.

Federal authorities quickly mapped the brother’s connections straight to a dangerous criminal network. This intensive probe completely uncovered a violent Greenspoint-area gang known as the “Young Shooters” or “YNS.”

FBI Special Agent Marquis Nelson later testified in federal court about the gang’s extensive social media behavior. He noted that the rappers frequently used online videos in which they “bragged on social media about committing crimes.”

Furthermore, the expansive months-long sting operation successfully culminated in a major sweeping regional bust last week. Federal agents executed coordinated raids and officially arrested more than 15 suspected gang members. John Wayne Ferguson reported that prosecutors aggressively argued to hold the young defendants entirely without bond.

Ultimately, the random attack on Jaylen Reed accidentally helped law enforcement dismantle a highly organized street gang.
