Adam Vinatieri got into the Pro Football Hall of Fame because of his outstanding career, but during his induction speech in Canton, Ohio, on Saturday, he showed fans just how funny he can be.
The former New England Patriots and Indianapolis Colts kicker delivered a speech full of heart, plenty of jokes, and lots of love for his family, coaches, and teammates. But a joke aimed at his former teammate and ESPN host Pat McAfee became the actual moment.
Vinatieri, who still holds the NFL’s all-time records for points scored (2,673) and field goals made (599), took the stage as part of the new Hall of Fame class and kept the crowd laughing with cracked jokes about Bill Belichick and Peyton Manning throughout his speech.
Then he turned his attention to McAfee.
“Pat McAfee is here,” Vinatieri said. “The only person who loved to hold my balls more than my wife.”
The crowd immediately reacted to the joke.
NFL Fans Loved Vinatieri’s Unexpected Humor

Many fans admitted they never expected Vinatieri to deliver one of the funniest moments of the Hall of Fame ceremony.

Vinatieri also took a hilarious jab at Bill Belichick. According to AP reporter Rob Maaddi, Vinatieri joked that Belichick skipped the ceremony because he was “judging his girlfriend’s cheerleading contest”, before clearing it and calling Belichick “the greatest.”
The Hall of Fame kicker spent his first 10 seasons with the Patriots before playing another 14 with the Colts. During his run in New England under Belichick, he helped spark the franchise’s dynasty by winning three Super Bowls.
Vinatieri is actually known for clutch postseason scenes. He famously nailed both the game-tying and game-winning kicks in the famous Snow Bowl against the Raiders in 2001, and followed that up by drilling the game-winning field goal in Super Bowl XXXVI against the Rams.
By the end of his 24-year career, Vinatieri had four Super Bowl rings, three Pro Bowls, and three First-Team All-Pro selections to his name. On Saturday, he officially topped his incredible career with a Hall of Fame speech fans won’t forget soon.
