During the Kansas City Chiefs’ annual training camp, Patrick Mahomes enforces a strict personal communication rule regarding his wife. Even when he completely detaches from the rest of the world, she remains his single mandatory exception.

The Chiefs’ training camp is at Missouri Western State University in St. Joseph, Missouri.

The team stays in the campus dormitories, which feature incredibly thick walls. Consequently, cell phone service inside the rooms is notoriously unreliable, making standard mobile communication a massive issue.

Because of these barriers and a highly intense offseason schedule, Patrick Mahomes chooses to completely disconnect from outside contacts.

Mahomes Admits The One Thing He Does For Brittany At Camp

However, Mahomes maintains one unshakeable rule to keep his marriage strong: no matter how bad the service is, he must text Brittany.

“St. Joe’s dorm rooms, man, you don’t get a lot of text messages. I just try to make sure I text Brittany. If I text Brittany, I’m usually in a good spot.”

While other friends, athletes, and business associates are completely shut out during his grueling seven-hour-day training and rehab blocks, his wife always gets priority access.

In the meantime, Mahomes is in the final stages of a major comeback. He is currently preparing to lead the Kansas City Chiefs onto the field just nine months after undergoing surgery to repair a torn ACL and LCL in his left knee.
