New England Patriots rookie offensive tackle Will Campbell had to be carted off after suffering a gruesome-looking knee injury during Sunday’s game against the Cincinnati Bengals.

The injury happened late in the third quarter after running back TreVeyon Henderson picked up four yards on a rushing play:

Campbell was on the ground for several moments and was looked at by trainers before getting taken off on a cart.

Campbell was visibly distraught as he was carted off, placing a towel over his head in a heartbreaking scene:

26-year-old Vederian Lowe had to come in and replace Will Campbell. There was no immediate update on the rookie’s condition, but we’ll provide more details when they become available.

Coming into Sunday’s game, Campbell had a 71.4 grade at Pro Football Focus and a 75.0 run-blocking grade that ranked 20th among offensive tackles. The improvement on the Pats’ o-line is a significant reason why the franchise is on its way to its first AFC East division title since 2019.
