The 2026 NFL Draft draws closer. After a remarkable edition in Green Bay last year, Pittsburgh will host the event next month. The league recognizes the importance of giving cities that can’t host the Super Bowl the opportunity to host another major event.

Detroit and Green Bay did it in 2024 and 2025, respectively, and now, Pittsburgh, home of one of the most iconic and storied franchises in the league. Unlike the combine in Indianapolis, many fans will attend this year’s edition.

The city is preparing for it, and the schools have decided to “minimize disruption” during the annual three-day event.

In an email shared to school staff, Pittsburgh Public Schools (PPS) said district schools will participate in remote learning during next month’s draft. Superintendent Wayne Walters said the move will prioritize student learning.

“Our priority is maintaining continuity of learning while recognizing the extraordinary circumstances the city will experience during the NFL Draft,” Walters said in a news release. “Transitioning to asynchronous learning allows us to support students academically while helping families navigate the logistical challenges expected across the region.”

Pittsburgh’s Public Source forecasts attendance of 500,000 to 700,000 visitors. Officials anticipate several road closures, heightened security, parking restrictions and traffic in the zones near the event.
