Cleveland Browns quarterback Deshaun Watson made headlines after police released bodycam footage of a recent high-speed traffic stop. An Ohio State Highway Patrol trooper originally pulled Watson over during morning rush hour on August 26.

He clocked the quarterback driving a 2022 Ram pickup truck at 86 mph in a 60 mph zone.

The newly released video captures a stoic, quiet, and professional exchange between the driver and the trooper. After asking Watson to pull his truck further onto the shoulder, the officer took his identification documents. The trooper calmly stated on camera, “I will be issuing a citation for the speed.”

Furthermore, Watson cooperated completely and accepted the ticket without mentioning his status as a famous football star. The officer concluded the brief morning interaction by telling him, “Drive safely” and “Take care, sir.”

Law enforcement officers clocked Deshaun Watson speeding recently. His rate of speed was significantly over the posted 60 mph speed limit on that highway.

After receiving his ticket, Watson officially entered a plea of not guilty to the citation in Cleveland Municipal Court. He entered this formal plea just days before the team’s highly anticipated regular-season opener.

Furthermore, the court has officially scheduled a bench trial for September 23 to resolve the traffic offense. This scheduled court date falls directly before the Browns’ upcoming home game.

On the field, Deshaun Watson endured a highly difficult 2026 season opener during the Cleveland Browns’ lopsided 34-10 blowout loss. Facing the Jacksonville Jaguars, the veteran quarterback completed sixteen of twenty-two passing attempts for 205 yards.

He threw one touchdown pass alongside one costly interception while also being sacked five times. His lone highlight came with under two minutes remaining on a 46-yard touchdown strike to Denzel Boston.

Reflecting on his performance, an emotional Watson admitted he dealt with a lot of anxiety and heavy emotions. He noted that after missing two years due to Achilles surgeries, “you just don’t know how your body’s really going to hold up.”
