Rob Gronkowski had a bittersweet return to the football field, five years after he last played his final down in the NFL. Gronkowski spent 11 years in the league, winning four Super Bowls in the process with the New England Patriots and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

He played 143 games, catching 621 passes for 9,286 yards and 92 touchdowns. Gronk joined Brady, the quarterback who helped him win those four championships, on Founders FFC, a flag football team in the Fanatics Flag Football Classic.

Gronkowski had a short time on the field, as he suffered sad news shortly after he made a couple of plays at BMO Stadium.

The Tom Brady-Rob Gronkowski connection was in full effect on Saturday. The pair connected for a successful two-point conversion before he limped off the field with a leg injury.

He caught the ball in-bounds before slipping and rolling to the ground. Gronk explained what happened during the live broadcast.

“I just pulled it right there on the slip,” said Gronkowski. “My hammy.”

Neither the Founders nor the Wildcats could touch Team USA during the event. The national squad beat won every game to win the cup. Gronk doesn’t have competitive commitments after this, so we hope he can heal fast.
