There has been some bad quarterback play over the first two weeks of the NFL season. One of the more notable situations resides in Atlanta.

The Atlanta Falcons’ quarterback depth chart has faced massive instability early in the 2026 NFL season. The franchise previously moved on from veteran Kirk Cousins during the offseason. Subsequently, expected starter Tua Tagovailoa suffered an oblique injury right before the season opener.

Backup Cooper Rush started the first two games of the season, resulting in two straight losses. Statistically, Rush has struggled. He has completed 22 of 39 passes for 229 yards. He also has one touchdown and four interceptions.

Their situation has Robert Griffin III thinking he can make a comeback.

Robert Griffin III Claims He’s Better Than Active NFL Quarterbacks

Former NFL quarterback Robert Griffin III publicly criticized the Atlanta Falcons’ unstable passing situation following their lopsided Week 2 defeat. He utilized social media to pitch a comeback and defend available free-agent passers.

Specifically, Griffin argued that quarterback-needy franchises across the league are unfairly ignoring experienced veterans. He explicitly questioned the roster management on X, writing, “When Cooper Rush and Jack Strand are stinking it up in Atlanta it makes zero sense that QBs like Cam Newton, Jimmy Garoppolo, Ryan Tannehill and myself aren’t the veteran presence in the room to stabilize teams when their QB goes down.”

Consequently, his bold remarks sparked major internet debates regarding whether he could still realistically play in the league.

Griffin has not taken an official NFL regular-season snap since playing for Baltimore in late 2020. During his final year in the NFL in 2020, Robert Griffin III served as the primary backup quarterback for the Baltimore Ravens. He spent the season supporting starter Lamar Jackson while occasionally appearing in relief roles.

Statistically, Griffin appeared in four games and earned a lone starting nod during Week 12. He threw for 42 passing yards, zero touchdowns, and two interceptions throughout the regular season campaign.

Because of that and many other reasons, social media ripped him.

“Bro tried to sneak himself in there,” one fan said.

“Who was the last guy you mentioned?” one account asked.

“And myself,” a third fan mocked.

“RG3 slipping himself in that lineup,” one final person commented.

Despite how people may feel, the Falcons literally have nothing to lose if they decide to call any of the quarterbacks mentioned in Griffin’s post. The 2026 season is already looking like a lost season.
