NFL fans turned a fun awards show moment into a social media roast on Thursday night. Commissioner Roger Goodell joined a comedy skit at the NFL Honors ceremony, but many viewers did not enjoy the joke.

Football’s biggest names gathered in San Francisco for the annual event. Coaches, players, legends, and team executives attended the show. The league planned to present its biggest awards of the season. However, one surprise segment grabbed the most attention.

During a break, host Jon Hamm introduced a fake DJ skit. Cameras first showed what looked like Falcons running back Bijan Robinson at a DJ booth. The camera then revealed Goodell instead. He wore a black hat, sunglasses, and a large gold chain.

Hamm acted confused and asked, “What are you doing?!”

Goodell answered with a straight face. “Bijan is on the can and I told him I’d take over,” he said.

The 66-year-old commissioner then leaned into the joke even more. He claimed his DJ work as his passion and gave himself a stage name.

“When I’m behind here, please, I like to go by Rog DMC,” Goodell said.

He announced he only plays his favorite songs and hit an NFL intro track. The crowd offered polite laughs. Many fans at home reacted very differently.

Viewers quickly took to X to mock the awkward scene. Most made it clear they did not enjoy the attempt at humor.

“Roger goodell you are not funny please don’t attempt to rehab your image just let us enjoy clowning you,” one fan wrote.

Another user questioned the idea behind the bit. “There’s literally no way Roger Goodell thought this would be a funny bit,” the post read.

Others kept their frustration short and direct. “Get Roger Goodell off my screen,” one person posted.

Another simply wrote, “Roger Goodell cringe.”

The negative reaction made it a difficult week for the commissioner. Goodell had already faced questions about featuring Puerto Rican artist Bad Bunny in Super Bowl events. President Donald Trump and some of his supporters criticized the decision.

Goodell dismissed the controversy earlier in the week. He told the Daily Mail that he did not think it distracted from the upcoming Super Bowl game between the Seahawks and Patriots.

“I don’t think that’s true,” Goodell said. “I think the media is talking about it, I don’t think anyone else is.”

The DJ skit brought a new wave of attention that he likely did not expect. Many fans showed they would rather talk about football than comedy segments. The moment proved that not every joke works, even during the NFL’s biggest event.
