San Francisco 49ers Dealt Another Brutal Injury Blow Ahead Of Their Clash vs Cardinals

While injuries are part of the NFL, the growing list of sidelined stars has become concerning. And one of the teams having a hard time with injuries is the San Francisco 49ers. 

Since August’s roster cuts, the Niners have eight players placed on Injured Reserve. Unfortunately, that number now balloons to nine, as they have recently added another starter to the list.

San Francisco 49ers Place C.J. West On IR

C.J. West, the team’s current starting defensive tackle, was recently placed by the Niners on IR. It is reported that his placement was due to bone chips in his knee. West will need surgery and may miss a good chunk of the 2026 season.

Coach Kyle Shanahan remains positive despite his team’s injury woes.

“Anytime you have five D-tackles make a team, and you’re down to two of them after two games, that’s always a concern for anybody,” Shanahan said. 

He then went on to say that West’s placement in the IR may mean an opportunity for one of his guys to fill the void.

“We were able to sign one new guy, Naquan Jones from the Vikings practice squad, and then we’ve got three guys on practice squad, Isaac Alarcon, Kevin Givens, and Sebastian Valdez, that will be competing to see who’s up. We’ve got guys there in this building, so we’ve got to see how those guys step it up,” he added.

The San Francisco 49ers are already missing the services of DT Alfred Collins, who is out before the season started.

Niners Emerge As Favorites To Land Marvin Harrison Jr.

As the Niners continue to deal with injury woes, how about adding somebody to ease their concerns? While coach Shanahan is set to find a gem in his DT depth chart, the team must also address other needs, such as their WR depth.

Right now, both of their star wide receivers are aged 30 or older. Mike Evans is already 33. Deebo Samuel will turn 31 in January. While both are still top-tier, it might be time to go younger at that spot.

In a recent report, it is suggested that the San Francisco 49ers are the favorites to land Cardinals’ WR Marvin Harrison Jr. However, the path to a trade remains uncertain. It remains an intriguing possibility, though, as the 2026 season moves forward.
