San Francisco 49ers Get Brutal Injury Update On Superstar Player Ahead Of Wild Card Matchup vs. Eagles

The injury-ravaged San Francisco 49ers will have to continue their Super Bowl 60 quest without second-year linebacker Tatum Bethune.
Despite an onslaught of injuries to key players, including quarterback Brock Purdy, superstar defensive end Nick Bosa and All-Pro linebacker Fred Warner, the 49ers finished 12-5 to lock down the NFC’s No. 5 seed. They’ll visit the Philadelphia Eagles in the Wild Card Round.
Unfortunately, the 49ers recently learned that they’ll be without another key defensive starter for the entire postseason.
Per Matt Barrows of The Athletic, Tatum Bethune is out for the remainder of 2025 with a groin injury. The statuses of Luke Gifford (quad) and Dee Winters (ankle) are still up in the air, per Barrows.
Another interesting update from head coach Kyle Shanahan to monitor, via Barrows: Fred Warner could return for the NFC Championship Game if the 49ers get to that point.
Tatum Bethune Has Plenty To Build Off For 2026

It’s unfortunate that Tatum Bethune was ruled out for the season just ahead of the playoffs. But he certainly emerged as a key contributor after Fred Warner went down with an injury, and there’s plenty to build off of for 2026.
49ers defensive coordinator Robert Saleh maximized the potential of his players during the regular season. Bethune can expect more playing time in 2026, and a tandem of he and Warner should scare the rest of the NFL.
“Next man up” has been a theme of the 2025 49ers. Bethune did his job in replacing Warner. Now, we wait and see if the other 49ers’ linebackers are up for the challenge as they prepare for the defending Super Bowl champions.
