Los Angeles Rams head coach Sean McVay has made it clear that he doesn’t play around when it comes to moving people on for the greater good. Last December, he fired special teams coordinator Chase Blackburn after the team lost to the Seattle Seahawks in primetime.

During that game, kicker Harrison Mevis also missed a late go-ahead 48-yard field goal attempt that could have changed everything for the Rams.

The NFC West franchise entered Monday’s game looking to build on a dramatic comeback win over the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 4. However, they were on the other end this time. The Bills secured a hard-fought 37-34 win in overtime, dropping the Rams to 2-3.

McVay had a lot to say after the game, noting that he would evaluate everything following the kicking game’s fall short.

“In the kicking game, especially with our PAT, field goal, not even close to good enough,” McVay said after the loss. “It cost us the game tonight.”

Hours later, the evaluation didn’t help Mevis. Ian Rapoport and Mike Garafolo reported that the Rams cut Mevis as part of McVay’s roster shakeup. The team added Blake Grupe of the Jets practice squad.

Mevis missed a 50-yard field goal attempt in the first quarter, before having a 48-yard kick blocked in overtime. After the miss, the Bills took over and won the game.

The 24-year-old went 5-of-9 (55.6%) in five games, including three misses in 40- and 49-yard kicks and 0-1 from the 50-yard line.

Grupe, 27, spent the 2025 season with the Indianapolis Colts and the New Orleans Saints. He went 29-of-37 (78.4%), including 3-of-6 from 40-49 and 7-of-10 from the 50-yard and beyond.
