Seattle Seahawks rookie safety Nick Emmanwori is dealing with an ankle injury that warrants close monitoring ahead of Super Bowl 60 against the New England Patriots.

Per ESPN’s Kalyn Kahler, Nick Emmanwori injured his ankle during Wednesday’s practice. The injury happened while he was defending a pass. The good news? Emmanwori was able to walk off on his own power.

“We brought him in to look at it, and we’ll kind of go from here and figure out what are the next steps?” head coach Mike Macdonald said, per Kahler.

Footage has since emerged of Emmanwori limping from his car to the team hotel, and it does not look good.

The Seahawks are already down one key player. Star running back Zach Charbonnet tore his ACL in Seattle’s 41-6 blowout win over the San Francisco 49ers in the Divisional Round, sidelining him for the rest of the year.

Patriots quarterback Drake Maye suffered a shoulder injury in the AFC Championship Game against the Denver Broncos. But on Wednesday, New England’s star signal-caller told reporters he’s “ready to go” for Super Bowl 60.

In the meantime, Seattle can only hope that Nick Emmanwori avoided a serious injury and wil be ready to go on Sunday.

The highly anticipated rematch of Super Bowl 49 will be held at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California. Kickoff is set for 6:30 p.m. EST.

Nick Emmanwori Exceeded Expectations As A Rookie

Seattle traded up via the Tennessee Titans to get Emmanwori in the second round (35th overall) last year.

The South Carolina product has looked more like a seasoned veteran than a rookie, however. Emmanwori finished the regular season with a Pro Football Focus grade of 71.4. That placed him 22nd among 98 graded safeties.

Emmanwori has done it all in Macdonald’s star-studded defense, with 11 pass breakups, one interception and 2.5 sacks. It’s easy to overlook his talents when Seattle has other stars on defense like Devon Witherspoon, Byron Murphy II, DeMarcus Lawrence, Julian Love and Coby Bryant.

If Emmanwori can’t play on Sunday, it’s a big blow to Seattle’s defense, which needs all the help it can get against New England’s high-powered offense.
