United States Secretary of State Marco Rubio decided to clear the air about recent rumors suggesting he would be involved in any way in the Miami Dolphins’ decisions in the 2026 NFL offseason. Rubio, a lifelong Dolphins fan, has been subjected to numerous rumors in recent days.

The Secretary of State has overseen operations in Venezuela and has been tasked by President Donald Trump to lead the transition in the South American country. Social media used this decision to create memes about Rubio’s role in Iran, joking about him taking another prominent role in the Middle Eastern country.

Additionally, somebody said he would also run the Dolphins while they found a new general manager. After a 7-10 record, the Dolphins parted ways with Chris Grier, naming Champ Kelly interim general manager, before firing Mike McDaniel as head coach.

Rubio sent a clear message on X, denying that he would be a candidate to coach or run the Dolphins.

“I do not normally respond to online rumors but feel the need to do so at this moment I will not be a candidate for the currently vacant HC and GM positions with the Miami Dolphins. While you never know what the future may bring right now my focus must remain on global events and also the precious archives of the United States of America. Thank you,” he tweeted.

Ten years ago, Marco Rubio revealed he didn’t always want to be a public servant. During a conversation with Anderson Cooper of CNN (via Fox Sports), Rubio revealed he wanted to be an NFL player.

“No, I wanted to play in the NFL. And I would have if it hadn’t been for my lack of size, speed and talent.”

He added that after seeing his football dreams didn’t materialize, he pursued a career in public service.

“I thought I’d be an NFL player or an NFL coach before I got to this point,” Rubio said. “But I just fast-forwarded past the NFL part.”

He is a die-hard Dolphins fan and a football fan in general. Katie Miller, wife of Stephen Miller, the White House Deputy Chief of Staff for Policy and Homeland Security advisor, shared a picture of Rubio and Secretary of War Pete Hegseth watching a football game during Donald Trump’s New Year’s Eve party.

Rubio is also a Florida Gators fan.
