Former NFL star Shawne Merriman is back in the news. The retired player is among four defendants ordered to pay $4 millions to the family of a deceased Playboy employee after losing a wrongful death civil lawsuit.

In 2019, the former San Diego Chargers star was sued by the parents of the deceased model. The family alleged that Merriman drugged and possibly assaulted their daughter before she overdosed while partying with him.

Kimberly Fattorini passed away in 2017, of an overdose of alcohol, cocaine and GHB, commonly known as the “date rape drug”. Eight years later, a major development in the case occurred.

The Daily Mail reported on Monday that a Los Angeles jury found the retired player and three other defendants liable for Fattorini’s death. Despite denying wrongdoing, Merriman, JP Castro, Eli Wehbe and Monica Maass were ordered to pay $4 million to the late model’s family.

The lawsuit described the former player arriving at Wehbe’s house, where Fattorini and other women already were. Merriman clutched a bottle “filled with liquid,” according to a witness. The complaint read that Fattorini told Wehbe that her drink was spiked.

After the group moved to a different apartment, Fattorini’s friend found her lifeless and called 911. Paramedics found her undressed when they arrived.
