The Cleveland Browns fans are done with Deshaun Watson. Many of them are pushing for the team to start Shedeur Sanders at QB1 ahead of Week 1. There are plenty of online debates about that topic, too.

However, it looks like the Browns are giving Watson one more chance to prove his worth. Of course they would. They still owe him a ton of money. Because of that, Sanders is expected to play backup quarterback duties this season.

Well, unless something drastic happens before the new season starts anyway.

Browns Could Add Joe Milton, Push Shedeur Sanders Further In Rotation

After Sunday’s round of cuts and roster movements, the Dallas Cowboys waived backup QB Joe Milton. Many expected that the 26-year-old would become the primary backup for Dak Prescott.

That’s a surprising move, even from the Cowboys’ standards. Many viewed Milton as a lock in Dallas’ 53-man roster heading into Week 1. Now, he’s found himself at the waiver wire despite a strong showing in the preseason.

Could the Cleveland Browns make a move for Milton? While it’s uncertain whether they should do it, the odd man out would likely be Shedeur Sanders. Due to Watson’s immovable contract, the choice for the Browns should they claim Milton would be between Sanders or rookie Taylen Green.

The team may lean into Green because he’s a talented rookie who has shown potential at the NFL level. That basically means that Sanders could be booted out if this scenario ever materializes.

Sanders Defends Watson From Hostile Browns Crowd

It’s no secret that Browns fans want to move on from Watson. In a preseason game against the Buffalo Bills, Cleveland fans relentlessly booed their starting quarterback. 

But for Sanders, instead of taking advantage of the opportunity, he chose the high road and called out their fans’ behavior.

“I don’t appreciate that at all,” Sanders said. “Just, regardless of competition, we all human beings, and I think we all need to understand that.”

“Just for all the fans and everything, I really appreciate ya’ll showing up and everything. And however ya’ll feel about the situation, about with Deshaun, about with everything, still I think it’s about bigger purpose of just respect,” he continued.
