Someone Posed as an NFL Star to Take Out a $4.3M Loan — FBI Investigating

Xavier McKinney has done nothing wrong, but his name is being thrown in the mud because of someone else.
An imposter nearly secured a massive loan using the name of the Green Bay Packers star. In a Guardian report, veteran sports business reporter Daniel Kaplan stated that Aliya Sports Finance Fund sued Sure Sports for alleged negligence. She stated it was for failing to perform due diligence when introducing the McKinney imposter to the lender for a seven-figure loan.
Apparently, someone out there was able to swindle a broker and a lender. The lawsuit contains no claims against McKinney, who is not alleged to have been involved in the fraud.
Aliya Sports Finance Fund alleges that Sure Sports approached the fund in early 2024. It was about providing a $4,375,000 loan for Xavier McKinney in exchange for an underwriting fee of $87,500.
“The individual who received the Loan is an unknown third party impersonating McKinney who has since absconded with the loan proceeds,” according to the lawsuit.
The Person Impersonating Xavier McKinney Almost Got What They Wanted

Aliya Sports agreed to the loan terms based on the information provided by Sure Sports. Months later, Sure Sports president Leon McKenzie emailed an Aliya Sports representative, stating that he “had concerns around the source” that brought us McKinney and would “keep (Aliya Sports) updated as we learn more through the FBI investigation …”
More than a month later, another Sure Sports representative told Aliya Sports that the loan might have been a scam and “that the funds may therefore have been stolen by a third party, and that the FBI was investigating the matter.” A trial in the civil lawsuit has been set for July 13.
The lawsuit also stated McKinney was one of the victims in the recent indictment of Kwamaine Jerrell Ford for allegedly posing as an adult film star to scam NBA and NFL athletes.
As for the real person, McKinney signed a four-year, $67 million contract with the Packers in 2024. The deal included a $23 million signing bonus.
