Stephen A. Smith has weighed in on the Bad Bunny Super Bowl halftime debate. There was much to say about the Puerto Rican superstar once the NFL announced him as the halftime performer.

Once he was done, Donald Trump said Bad Bunny’s Super Bowl performance was the worst one ever as he railed against the halftime show. The Super Bowl LX halftime show was completely in Spanish from start to finish. He previously told everyone that they had four months to learn the language.

Trump, who said he would not attend, had a lot to say about the halftime show.

“It makes no sense, is an affront to the Greatness of America, and doesn’t represent our standards of Success, Creativity, or Excellence. Nobody understands a word this guy is saying, and the dancing is disgusting, especially for young children that are watching from throughout the USA, and all over the World. This “Show” is just a “slap in the face” to our Country, which is setting new standards and records every single day — including the Best Stock Market and 401(k)s in History! There is nothing inspirational about this mess of a Halftime Show and watch, it will get great reviews from the Fake News Media, because they haven’t got a clue of what is going on in the REAL WORLD — And, by the way, the NFL should immediately replace its ridiculous new Kickoff Rule. MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN! President DONALD J. TRUMP,” he said in a post on his Truth Social platform.

Because of his show, Turning Point USA announced that it would host an alternative halftime show for those who did not want to tune in for the Bad Bunny performance.

Now, Trump has a big figure on ESPN by his side.

The ESPN personality is arguing that language and audience expectations mattered on the NFL’s biggest stage. Speaking during a segment on his podcast, Stephen A. Smith laid out his reasoning.

“Let me get to something that may be deemed controversial. It’s not to me, personally, and that was the Super Bowl halftime show by Bad Bunny, which was primarily sung entirely in Spanish. We saw Lady Gaga perform, obviously in English. We saw them dancing, I got to admit, the vibe was fly,” Smith said.

He added: “… I love how the President of the United States was acting like he wasn’t going to watch, but he was watching… and by the way, while he was watching it, he naturally took time to insult it in the aftermath.”

Smith further expanded on his position later in the same discussion. He argued that Trump’s criticism reflected a genuine segment of the audience.

“There’s millions upon millions of Americans that would have wanted to hear something in English other than Lady Gaga. That is true,” Smith continued.

“… The president is speaking on behalf… of tens of millions of Americans who are like, ‘I didn’t understand a word he was saying because I don’t know Spanish.’ That is a valid point,” he concluded.

Bad Bunny’s Super Bowl LX halftime show was always destined to make history. The Puerto Rican singer became the first Latino solo artist to headline football’s biggest event. Millions tuned in for the record-breaking Super Bowl Halftime Show.

An estimated 135 million viewers made Bad Bunny’s Super Bowl LX halftime show the most-watched mid-game performance ever, per NBC.
