Aaron Rodgers reportedly had an emotional reaction to Mike Tomin stepping down as head coach.

Tomlin broke the news to the players in the final team meeting, according to The Athletic. His decision resulted in heartbreak and devastation. Joey Porter Jr. was described as “almost hyperventilating” while TJ Watt was in tears. A staff member compared it to a funeral and said, “It’s like finding out your dad died.”

Aaron Rodgers probably had the most emotional response. The veteran quarterback was brought to tears as he apologized over and over again.

“Inside the team meeting room on Tuesday, Rodgers, through sobs, mustered a two-word message to deliver to his coach: “I’m sorry,” several players heard him say. “I’m sorry. I’m sorry.”

The season did not end the way the team had hoped. However, Rodgers had the most productive season of any Steelers quarterback since Ben Roethlisberger retired. In 16 regular-season games, Rodgers totaled 3,322 passing yards, 24 passing touchdowns. He also completed 65.7% of his passes and had a 94.8 passer rating.

Pittsburgh won the NFC North and finished 10-7 for a third consecutive year.

The Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback played what might be his final game against the Houston Texans on Monday night. As he left the field, one Steelers fan could be heard screaming, “Retire, Aaron!”

He might just do that now. After Mike Tomlin stepped down, it is unlikely that Rodgers will come back to the Steelers.

During his postgame press conference, Rodgers dropped a major F-bomb when asked about Mike Tomlin. “I’ve talked extensively about how I feel about Mike,” Rodgers said. “And I just did in that f**king answer.”

His respect for the coach was evident. Him no longer being in town changes everything going forward. Now, the Steelers do not have Tomlin and won’t have Aaron Rodgers.

Should he choose to ride off into the sunset, he is surely going to wait it out in true Rodgers fashion.
