Jordan Elliott’s sudden absence from the Tennessee Titans’ lineup has been explained.

The defensive lineman missed Friday’s practice for what Tennessee claimed were personal reasons. He was then inactive for Sunday’s 26-20 win over the Indianapolis Colts, despite appearing in each of the Titans’ first five games this season.

The Titans have since announced they released Elliott after reviewing an incident at their facility on October 15. The team did not provide details on what happened and said it would not comment further.

“On Thursday, October 15, there was an incident at our team facility involving Jordan Elliott,” the team said in a statement shared by team reporter Jim Wyatt. “Following our review of the incident, we have made the decision to release Elliott from our roster. We will have no further comment on the matter.”

Elliott signed a two-year deal with Tennessee in March after spending the previous two seasons with the San Francisco 49ers. Before that, he played four seasons with the Cleveland Browns, who selected him in the third round of the 2020 NFL Draft.

The 6-foot-4 defensive tackle recorded 11 tackles across five appearances with the Titans this season, including one start. He started 16 games and recorded 31 tackles in his last season with the Niners.

Elliott’s release comes shortly after Tennessee’s first win under new head coach Robert Saleh. The Titans had opened the campaign with five straight losses before beating the Colts on Sunday.

The move leaves Tennessee without a veteran defensive lineman as it prepares for a Week 7 home fixture against the Cleveland Browns.

The real question remains unanswered at the moment, with fans likely keen to know what happened five days ago.
