Tom Brady Pens Newsletter Claiming Legendary Analyst Died Last Week – Even Though The Guy’s Been Dead For Over 3 Years

Tom Brady mistakenly claimed a former lead analyst for FOX Sports died last week.
Iconic MLB announcer Tim McCarver passed away in February 2023. Brady, for some reason, thought he’d been alive up until last week.
The former NFL quarterback wrote a newsletter highlighting McCarver’s impact on the job. Brady also suggested that McCarver was a role model, outlining certain traits he would like to see in himself.
“The great Tim McCarver passed away last week,” he wrote. “Tim had my job for FOX—lead analyst—from 1996 to 2013, but on the baseball side. Tim called more than 20 World Series in his career. He was fantastic at his job. Insightful, analytical, passionate, and immensely likable.”
Brady added:
“As I prepare for my second off-season self-scout as a broadcaster, I’ve been thinking a lot this past week about the more intangible qualities of greatness and leadership. One of them, which I call ‘likability’, came right back to the front of my mind with Tim McCarver’s passing.”
Tom Brady Apologizes For Error

McCarver was a veteran lead analyst on FOX’s MLB coverage. He died from heart failure in February 2023 at the age of 81.
Brady clearly got his dates mixed up. He’s since blamed it on proofreading.
“Through a proofreading mistake, I mentioned in this morning’s email that Tim McCarver passed away last week. McCarver actually passed away on February 16, 2023, at the age of 81,” he wrote.
“I apologize for the error and any confusion it may have caused,” Brady added. “Tim’s legacy as both a two-time World Series champion and one of baseball’s most iconic broadcasters remains as significant as ever.”
The seven-time Super Bowl winner will go into the third year of a 10-year deal with FOX in 2026. He’s earned lots of praise for his improvement in the booth in year 2, with one particular moment of brilliance standing out during the playoffs last season.
He could be even better in year 3, especially if he’s looking to emulate one of the greats.
