As if Tony Romo didn’t have enough heat against him, he completely butchered Josh Allen’s name during the Buffalo Bills-Denver Broncos playoff game on Saturday.
Now in his ninth season at CBS Sports, Tony Romo has faced growing criticism over his recent performances in the broadcast booth. Romo was especially blasted by football fans during the Bills’ Wild Card Round win over the Jacksonville Jaguars last week.
All sports announcers and analysts make the odd mistake on live television. But Romo calling Josh Allen “Patrick Mahomes”? That wasn’t on anyone’s bingo card.

Josh Allen and Patrick Mahomes look nothing alike. Mahomes is recovering from a season-ending ACL tear. His Kansas City Chiefs missed the postseason for the first time since 2015.
There has been speculation that CBS Sports is unhappy with Tony Romo’s performance in the broadcast booth. But according to Michael McCarthy of Front Office Sports, Romo isn’t in hot water whatsoever.
Romo and partner Jim Nantz will conclude their 2025 season in next week’s AFC Championship Game. NBC Sports is broadcasting Super Bowl 60.
