AJ Brown’s Patriots debut carried enormous expectations from the moment New England traded for him. Wednesday night’s season opener against Seattle was supposed to showcase exactly why.

Things looked promising early. Brown seemed like he could fit in working alongside rookie quarterback Drake Maye, flashing the traits New England traded for.

Somewhere along the way, frustration crept in.

A Sideline Rant Quickly Found Its Way Online

Cameras captured Brown leaning over New England’s bench, addressing his offensive linemen directly during the 13-10 loss.

“If y’all boys just could hold up, we gon’ score this s**t,” he was heard saying. “They cannot fk with none of us at wide receiver, I’m telling you. We running wide open, you hear me?”

“Facts bro facts,” one fan wrote, laughing.

“He’s already asking other players to play better,” another quipped.

“Why the WR talking to the O-line?” someone asked.

“Bro said ‘I’m doing my job,’” someone else added.

“Bro forgot Smitty not lined up on the other side,” a user pointed out.

Others used the moment to revive older criticism from Brown’s time in Philadelphia.

“A WR going to the OL and telling them ‘y’all are the reason we’re not scoring.’ Took a little more than two quarters for AJ Brown to return to his PHI form & start pointing fingers. NE’s gonna get exactly what they paid for with him,” someone noted.

Another fan simply shared a GIF of Jalen Hurts smirking.

The Rant Preceded An Injury That Ended His Night Early

Brown’s night took a far more serious turn shortly after. He suffered a high ankle sprain early in the third quarter when Seahawks cornerback Nehemiah Pritchett landed awkwardly on his leg during a low throw from Maye.

The Patriots have since placed Brown on injured reserve, ruling him out for a minimum of four games.

Initial X-rays for a fracture came back negative, offering some relief given how the injury initially looked on the field.

New England now turns to Romeo Doubs and Mack Hollins to fill the void left by Brown’s absence.

Whether his sideline message ends up meaning anything once he returns is left to be seen.
