The 2026 NFL Scouting Combine left plenty of memorable stories, confirmed which players will be franchise-altering assets in the league, but also raised concerns about certain prospects. While some climb spots ahead of the draft, others hurt their chances in different ways.
Besides the talent and the work ethic, being healthy is crucial to having a long career and making teams see you as a long-term answer. However, sometimes a player’s body indicates that he might not have a long career in the pros.
Ohio State safety Caleb Downs, whose father played in the league for six seasons, could drop from the first round after reports of serious medical issues popped up following the combine.
Ohio State Caleb Downs’ ACL Could Become An Issue

Cory Kinnan of Daft on Draft wrote on Sunday that Caleb Down’s medical tests weren’t all positive. This could end up hurting his draft stock.
“Bummer here, I was told by an NFC scout that Ohio State safety Caleb Downs had a couple of issues flagged during his medical check,” Kinnan wrote. “Nobody expected him to test (at the combine), so it flew a bit under the radar. However, I was told that Downs was flagged with a partially torn meniscus this week. That is not a serious concern, but also being flagged with a potentially degenerative ACL is.”
Before that, Downs looked like a top-10 pick in April’s draft. However, things could be different now. The Dallas Cowboys could put their hands on him with an ambitious trade.
