Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce found himself at the center of an unexpected social media storm this week. It came as a result of private text messages involving his fiancée, Taylor Swift, that emerged in newly unsealed legal documents. The texts were connected to Blake Lively’s ongoing legal fight with Justin Baldoni.

In the midst of that, his football team was making moves on the coaching staff. The Chiefs reportedly plan to bring back Eric Bieniemy as their offensive coordinator. This was a position he previously held for five seasons before leaving the team in 2023. Bieniemy spent a decade on head coach Andy Reid’s staff, and that coincided with tight end Travis Kelce’s first 10 years in the NFL.

Kelce is undoubtedly a huge fan of the move. His comments suggest he has made a decision about his career. Earlier this month, Travis Kelce joked about being jobless as he is currently unsigned. “I am officially jobless, Jason,” Kelce said. “In fact, this is my only job. This is the only company that employs me right now.”

Behind every joke is a real decision to be made, and he will need to make one soon.

The Kansas City Chiefs are moving in a new direction after a disappointing 2025 campaign saw the team miss the playoffs for the first time since 2014. While the Chiefs have not yet made the move official, Eric Bieniemy is expected to return to the franchise as the club’s offensive coordinator.

Tight end Travis Kelce said on the latest episode of his New Heights podcast that he’s excited about the reunion.

“I can’t wait to see him back in the building, man,” Kelce said, via Pete Grathoff of the Kansas City Star. “He’s one of my favorite coaches of all-time, one of my favorite people of all time. I’ve had so many unbelievable, growing moments under him as a player, as a person, and I just love the guy, and it’s gonna be awesome to see him back in the building and see him back wearing the Chiefs logo, baby.”

Since leaving the Chiefs following their victory over the 49ers in Super Bowl LVII, Bieniemy served as Washington’s offensive coordinator in 2023. He also spent a season with UCLA as the club’s offensive coordinator. Eric was the Bears’ running backs coach in 2025.

“I think it’s a marriage that’s gonna pick up right where it left off,” Travis Kelce said.

“E.B., he and who he is as a coach, you can see kind of his personality, what he brings to the table in that Chicago team. I know Ben Johnson has his own version of that. He’s a very tough guy. And what he did in Detroit, he brought over as well.”

His comments do not sound like those of a man who is planning to retire.
