After a very busy offseason, Travis Kelce is back doing wonders again for the Kansas City Chiefs. 

But before his rousing performance against the Denver Broncos on opening week, there was a time when he felt unsure about returning. He became a ‘dad’. Plus, he’s a married man now to one of the world’s most famous pop stars. 

He’s done it all on the field. Luckily, the soon-to-be 37-year-old decided to play again this season due to some unfinished business. And at least for now, that looks like a very good decision for the veteran tight end.

Travis Kelce Passed John Witten’s TE Record

Arguably one of the best tight ends to play in the NFL, Kelce has numerous records under his belt. Now, he has added another one. During the third quarter against the Denver Broncos on Monday night, Travis Kelce passed Jason Witten’s receiving yards record for a tight end. 

At that time, he had his second reception of the game.

He now has 13,073 career receiving yards after the contest. That’s good for second all-time for a TE. After Kelce’s feat, Jason Witten now sits at third with 13,046 career receiving yards.

Will Kelce Have A Shot To Break Tony Gonzalez’s Record

Leapfrogging Witten’s record was one thing. Getting to the top spot of history books is another. Right now, Tony Gonzalez has the record for the most career receiving yards for a tight end at 15,127.

It means that Travis Kelce needs 2,054 receiving yards to tie Gonzalez. Could he reach or pass that feat? There’s a good chance he could. If Kelce stays healthy throughout the 2026 season, he’ll inch closer to the record.

Now comes the tricky part. Should he find another inspiration to play in 2027, then he’ll have a shot to break Gonzalez’s all-time receiving yards record for a tight end.

If the Chiefs recapture their old magic, then there’s a huge chance that Kelce will keep on playing. He’s still extremely good at this stage of his NFL career.
