Travis Kelce was battling a lawsuit all while preparing to marry Taylor Swift.
According to TMZ, the Kansas City Chiefs tight end was actively fighting a trademark case in the days leading up to his wedding with the pop sensation at Madison Square Garden.
Kelce and Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes are defendants in a federal lawsuit filed by Boston-based 1587 Sneakers.
The company claims the NFL stars’ Kansas City steakhouse, 1587 Prime, infringes on its trademark.
Court filings show Kelce and Mahomes are asking to have the case dismissed from New York, per TMZ. They argue they do not have sufficient ties to the state because they play for the Chiefs in Missouri, and their restaurant also operates in Kansas City.
1587 Sneakers is of a different view. The company claims the two regularly appear in national advertising campaigns and can therefore be sued in New York.
Travis Kelce & Patrick Mahomes Went About Choosing Restaurant’s Name In A Unique Way

Kelce and Mahomes chose the name by combining their jersey numbers, 15 and 87, when they opened the upscale steakhouse in September 2025 with hospitality group Noble 33. The restaurant sits inside the Loews Kansas City Hotel and has become one of the city’s highest-profile dining destinations.
The sneaker company says it began using the 1587 brand in 2023 to recognize the first recorded arrival of Filipino sailors in America. It claims consumers could mistakenly believe the restaurant and sneaker company are connected.
The lawsuit seeks damages and an order preventing Kelce and Mahomes from continuing to use the name.
Despite the legal battle, Kelce still celebrated one of the biggest weekends of his life.
He married Swift during a star-studded ceremony at Madison Square Garden on Friday. The guest list reportedly included celebrities from sports, music, film and television.
The trademark dispute, however, remains unresolved as Kelce and Mahomes continue building their business portfolio away from football.
