New Green Bay Packers cornerback Trevon Diggs released an emotional Instagram video one day after his stunning departure from the Dallas Cowboys.

On Tuesday, news broke that the Cowboys waived Trevon Diggs. The surprise development came two years after the veteran cornerback signed a lucrative five-year contract extension worth $97 million.

The 27-year-old didn’t have to wait long for a new team, though. The rival Packers claimed Diggs off waivers ahead of their Week 18 regular-season finale against the Minnesota Vikings.

It certainly wasn’t the split the Cowboys and Trevon Diggs wanted. But it didn’t stop the All-Pro cornerback from sharing a heartfelt message and goodbye to America’s Team and its fans on Instagram:

“I want to thank the Dallas Cowboys organization for the opportunity they gave me and for changing my life, both on and off the field. I’ll always be grateful for what my time here meant for me and my family.

I want to thank all the coaches and staff who believed in me, pushed me, and helped me grow as a player and as a man. I’m thankful for the relationships and brotherhood I built in that locker room—those bonds will always mean a lot to me.

With that said, I’m excited for a new journey and a fresh start. I’m motivated, focused, and ready for what’s next.

To the fans who supported me throughout this journey, you are truly appreciated. Thank you for the love and support along the way.

God is great 🤍🙏

After his departure from Dallas, it was reported that Diggs and Brian Schottenheimer had a strong disagreement following the Cowboys’ Christmas Day win over the Washington Commanders.

Schottenheimer reportedly turned down Trevon Diggs’ wish to spend additional time with his family in Maryland. Diggs ignored his coach and stayed with the family anyway, a move that didn’t sit well with Schottenheimer.

Trevon Diggs Needed A Fresh Start

Diggs struggled to stay healthy after signing his massive extension with Dallas. He appeared in only two games in 2023, played 11 in 2024, and suited up for just eight this year. He also struggled significantly in man-to-man coverage, as observers widely noted.

The Cowboys are nowhere close to contending for a Super Bowl. The Packers are in the playoffs for the third consecutive year as the No. 7 seed, and they may draw a favorable matchup, such as the Philadelphia Eagles or Chicago Bears, in the playoffs.

Green Bay has one of the league’s best defenses, so Diggs won’t have as much responsibility here. A well-coached club like the Packers could very well help Diggs regain the superstar-like form we saw back in 2021.
