Amid a bitter situation with Joe Buck, Troy Aikman took another big hit involving his broadcasting career. The retired NFL quarterback confirmed that he will become a free agent after the 2026 season, ending his four-year tenure with ESPN.

He reportedly had a fight with Buck a couple of weeks ago after the play-by-play caller signed a contract extension with the network, while Aikman hadn’t gotten an offer. Speculation about his future began shortly after the reports.

While he sees through the remainder of his contract, Aikman suffered a big loss over the weekend. Longtime Florida sportscaster and Fox Sports NFL spotter David Moulton died. His wife shared the tragic news on Saturday.

“It is with a completely shattered heart broken into a million pieces I share that my loving husband, David, died last night while in hospice care at the Douglas Center for Caring,” Moulton’s wife wrote. “David battled stage four renal cell cancer for six long years. It metastasized to his bones two years ago. He never stopped fighting or trying new treatments.

“He loved life and loved each and every one of you more than words can express. We are so thankful for the love and support you all have given us.”

Aikman took to Instagram to pay tribute to Moulton. He explained that they went from simple colleagues to developing a friendship that transcended the game and the booth.

“Since 2018, David Moulton has been my right-hand man in the broadcast booth. What started as a professional relationship became a friendship I have cherished. David was loyal, dependable and a warrior until the very end. He deserved better. My heart breaks for his family and all who loved him. I’m grateful for the years we shared and will miss him deeply. Rest in peace big guy🙏🏼❤️,” he wrote.

Moulton endured a long battle with cancer. He became a Southwest Florida sports radio personality while working with FOX, CBS, ABC-7, and even SiriusXM on Mad Dog Radio and NFL Radio.

He made a strong impact on those who knew him, including Aikman. May he rest in peace.
